New Partnership Between Trans Union and FDCPA Case Listing Service, LLC

by Sonya Smith-Valentine, Valentine Legal Group on August 27, 2009

Trans Union will begin offering data from FDCPA Case Listing Service to provide additional information to its clients.  The new service allows Trans Union to alert collectors about accounts that may have been previously involved in FDCPA litigation to assist the collectors in deciding on a collection strategy.  With the information about prior FDCPA lawsuits, the collection industry can use data in a fashion similar to bankruptcy scrubs when trying to prioritize collection accounts.

Consumer lawsuits against debt collectors have increased and are costly for the collection industry.  Over 5,300 FDCPA cases were filed in 2008.  It was a 41% increase in FDCPA litigation from 2007.  Cases are expected to exceed over 7,300 for 2009.
